CEFR levels: from an A2 inquiry to a C1 group
CEFR is the common European proficiency scale from A1 to C2. Mimiao stores the level on the lead card and student profile, giving a manager context for choosing a group. Booking a trial and moving a student between groups remain separate, controlled actions.
What is CEFR and why should a school track it?
The CEFR scale is a shared language between the school, the student and international exams: A1–A2 is a beginner, B1–B2 an independent user, C1–C2 proficient. When a school keeps records by level, the vague “intermediate” and “advanced” disappear: groups are formed more precisely, materials match the step, and a student’s progress can be shown objectively.

The level is captured from the first inquiry
Before the first lesson, the lead card already holds the desired language and level. This gives the manager context when choosing a teacher and a later group. A trial is booked for a specific teacher, date and time; the system does not choose a group automatically.

Level groups and transitions that lose nothing
Each level is its own group with its own lesson series in the shared calendar: A2 on Tuesdays and Thursdays, B1 on Mondays and Wednesdays. When a student outgrows a step, you move them up in one action — their lesson history, lesson balance and earned rewards stay with them. No “let’s set you up from scratch” and no lost balances.

Frequently asked questions
Does Mimiao include a built-in placement test?
No — there is no automatic placement test in the system. The level is determined by your methodologist or teacher at the trial lesson, or by your school’s own test, the way you’re used to. Mimiao’s job is the record-keeping: capturing the level on the lead card, enrolling the student into a group of the right step, and preserving the full history through level transitions. In other words, the system doesn’t replace the methodological assessment — it guarantees its result never gets lost.
What happens when a student outgrows their level?
You simply move them into a stronger group — one action, no new profile. The full lesson history, the prepaid lesson balance and the earned coins and stickers stay with the student, so moving from B1 to B2 looks like a continuation of the journey, not a restart from zero. For parents and the student it’s tangible proof of progress: you can see how many steps they’ve already climbed at your school.
We track levels with our own system, not CEFR. Is that a problem?
Not at all. You name the groups yourself, so “Starter”, “Intermediate+” or your own course names work just as well as A1–C2. The system’s logic doesn’t depend on the label: groups with their lesson series, transitions that keep the history, and a level field on the lead card. CEFR is convenient as a common denominator — especially if you prepare students for international exams — but nothing stops you from combining it with your school’s own scale.
